This is what I call a creative fountain! That’d be a neat thing to have in your garden. The originating site has a lot of good photography in it. Well worth checking out.

Wind Powered Sculptures
I’ve heard about this guy’s wind powered mobile sculptures before, but it’s still awesome to see. A little eerie, too.
We are going to be short gas this summer…..
This from the R-Squared Energy Blog…..
I don’t think I have ever seen the forecasters miss the estimate this badly. They were forecasting a 300,000 barrel decline in gasoline stocks, and instead got a 5 million barrel decline. For the first time in a long time, inventories are now in the lower half of the normal range.
Read the whole post for the details on this. But I have not seen any really good answers for why there has been a stronger than expected drop in stocks. The quick answer seems to be that the refineries are only operating at 87 percent capacity. This is a lower than people had expected. The question is why…..
NYT Article on Alzheimer’s
Below is a link to a NYT article on people trying to live with Alzheimer’s. The observations in the article line up with my own. If you read the article you will see there is one man profiled who still retains his short term memory but is losing his motor skill rapidly. Then there is a lady who retains her motor skills better but has completely lost her short term memory. Grandpa isn’t so much to one extreme or the other, but those cases reflect how Alzheimer’s progresses differently for every individual.
I would say Grandpa has lost probably short term memory and motor skills in equal measure. He hasn’t lost either entirely, but both are getting progessively worse.

Poem of the Week: 4/1/07-4/7/07
You will not understand why I chose The Future by Leonard Cohen to be this week’s poem of the week unless you read this week’s essay. The Future is quite different then most of the poems that are normally chosen. Part of the difference lies in the fact that it is a popular song that has been part of the soundtrack to a couple of different movies. But that is not all of the difference…..
In connection with the essay of the week, it is worth noting that Cohen has generally been more popular in Europe then in the US.
Below is a video clip of Cohen singing (if that is the word for what he does) “The Future.” But I would advise you to read the poem (and maybe the essay of the week as well) before listening to it.
Rant of the Week: 4/1/07-4/7/07
In this week’s rant Chickenman talks of office politics and human nature. It is not a particularly uplifting read, but it fits with the rest of the selections for this week.
Essay of the Week: 4/1/07-4/7/07
Many Conservatives are fretting about Muslims taking over Europe. But I wonder; how could Muslim rule be worse then the current religion ruling Europe? Radical Muslims I can understand, but the strain of thought that seems to rule Europe makes me soul sick.
This strain of thought, or religion if you will, is not limited to Europe. I see it growing all around me. But by all accounts, this horror is more advanced in Europe.
My perception of this horror resonates with this essay entitled The Barbarians at the Gates of Paris by Theodore Dalrymple. Even though this essay is five years old, it is still relevant today.
Fleeing into Darfur?
For those who don’t know, Darfur is a place that people have leaving in droves. Arab thugs have been killing every black man that they can find in Darfur. Naturally, the residents of Darfur who posses a personal coloration darker then the average Arab have fled the area. So when I saw the headline that Click Here to continue reading.
Where have all the flowers gone?
The old management was better than the current management.
The old management was better than the current management. Let this become so self-evident to you that you do not notice if I write it again: The old management was better than the current management.
Every partisan has a consipiracy theory about the enemy, a theory that always Click Here to continue reading.
The problems at M&T Bank….
M&T bank happens to be a bank that we in the Ethereal Land have some familiarity with. So it was of great interest to me to come across this post from Calculated Risk(be sure to read the comments). The post by CR called to my attention this Reuter’s news story…..
