Why did the Prime Minster of Israel feel compelled to make a secret trip to Russia? Was everyone so asleep at the wheel that the they could not come up with a half way decent cover story?

Watching Sorrow And Hope
Yesterday I went to see my dying Grandfather. I was told he was going downhill fast and if I wanted to see him one last time I should come over right away. It has been a pretty steady trip downwards all summer. But he got a little cold and that seemed to cause him to give up all desire to go on living. (Today I saw an article on the subject of colds and Alzheimer’s that shows that my Grandfather’s experience is not all that unique.) (To read the rest, click here….)

Rant of the Week: 9/6/09-9/12/09
This week’s rant of the week alleges that Cheney’s fundamental sin is too much honesty.
But an argument could also be made that is was idealism rather than cynicism that did caused the Bush administration drag the Republican collation down.
The blue collars males who have been a critical part of the Republican collation since Regan don’t mind torture (when done to “bad guys”) and they don’t mind blowing things up (especially when they belong to “bad guys). But they do mind spending billions of dollars and seeing their sons killed to make other nations a better place to live. This is especially when those other nations don’t seem to appreciate it.
In other words, if the Bush administration had stuck to torture and stayed away from nation building, he might have left office a popular man.
Essay of the Week: 9/6/09-9/12/09
