The sham device had greater effects than the placebo pill on self reported pain and severity of symptoms over the entire course of treatment but not during the two week placebo run in. Placebo effects seem to be malleable and depend on the behaviours embedded in medical rituals.

This skirt by the duo 6267 caught my eye. Clipped from The Wall Street Journal, February 23, 2007, in the Marketplace section. (The article was called A Duo called 6267 Adds a Spark in Milan.) I like the contrast between the fitted overskirt and pleated texture of the underskirt.
I clipped this from The Wall Street Journal, the February 23, 2007 Review: Theater. The picture is credited to Paul Kolnik, but this is only a small piece of that photo. (The play being reviewed was ‘Salvage’.) I like what they did with the shoulders.
(The title is reference to the book I learned how to read on, so you probably won’t “get” it.)

The essay of the week caused us to think of this poem by William Blake for various convoluted reasons.
The Tatterdemalion knows how do a proper rant. This particular rant by her has to do with a store that most of us don’t shop at, but we all still enjoyed it anyway.
The most dangerous thing about an evil ideology is that it makes us think that we are justified in doing anything that opposes an evil ideology. We often forget how the evils of communism caused people to turn a blind eye to the evils of fascism. And how the evils of fascism caused people to turn a blind to the evils of communism.
There is not better example of how this moral blindness work’s then the young George Orwell. As this essay reminds us, young Orwell fought for a group of murderous communists in the name of freedom.
At the Chief’s request (which we are hardly in a position to refuse) this week’s poem of the week is A. E Housman’s Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries.
We blame the poor quality of this weeks essay on the fact that the Chief has been interacting with the Apeman. Thus, we decided that J. Dueck’s rant on the virtues of not interacting with other people ought to be rant of the week.
We are a day late updating the essay of the week and it is all the Chief’s fault. He made us wait a day so that he could put the finishing touches on his essay.
Anyway, since he is the publisher, his essay in now the essay of the week. We think that it one the worst essays that Chief has ever written, but what do we know?
