How many buildings designed by the over admired Mr. Wright have a structure that can last? Seems like every time I turn around I read about another one of his building that has a structural flaw. This from the Construction Equipment Blog….

Poem of the Week: 9/9/07-9/15/07
Isaiah 14:12-21
12 How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart,
“I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.”
15 But you are brought down to the grave,
to the depths of the pit.
16 Those who see you stare at you,
they ponder your fate:
“Is this the man who shook the earth
and made kingdoms tremble,
17 the man who made the world a desert,
who overthrew its cities
and would not let his captives go home?”
18 All the kings of the nations lie in state,
each in his own tomb.
19 But you are cast out of your tomb
like a rejected branch;
you are covered with the slain,
with those pierced by the sword,
those who descend to the stones of the pit.
Like a corpse trampled underfoot,
20 you will not join them in burial,
for you have destroyed your land
and killed your people.
The offspring of the wicked
will never be mentioned again.
21 Prepare a place to slaughter his sons
for the sins of their forefathers;
they are not to rise to inherit the land
and cover the earth with their cities.
Pictures of Piggly-Wiggly
People are all the same.
For piggy number one, girl number one insists upon calling it “Piggy”, and mother number one tries to convince her to give it an actual name (in this case, “Rose”).
For piggy number two, girl number two insists upon calling it “Piggy”. Her mother is currently trying to convince her to Click Here to continue reading.
Poem of the Week: 9/2/07-9/8/07
In the beginning of this week’s essay, Sandmonkey quoted from a poem by Philip Larkin. It seems fitting that I should make Larkin’s poem “This be the verse” poem of the week.
The poem reminds me of Sandmonkey and of very many other bitter young people that I know. It explains why so many people of my generation don’t want to have children and can’t wait to die.
For those that don’t know, I should point that title of this poem alludes to Requiem by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Perspiration for Inspiration
So last night when I was very tired and should have been going to bed, I happened to check my email and discovered an email from eQuilter wanting me to take their survey. (If you did, they’d give you a $5 gift certificate at their store, but that was just gravy. If anyone would ever Click Here to continue reading.
The Ariz Brothers
DampRabbit recently posted this amazing video of the Ariz Brothers’ acrobatic act. I don’t know where he gets all this historical footage, but I am grateful he is taking the time and effort to post them online for the rest of us.
The grand finale is just incredible.
Poem of the Week: 8/26/07-9/1/07
The Poem of the Week is The Charge Of The Light Brigade by Lord Tennyson. You can read about the battle that he based the poem off of here.
Color, revisited
I meant to do pictures with my post of seasons/colors, but pretty soon I realized not having pictures ready was keeping me from writing the post. So I wrote it without pictures. But then someone just happened to take a snapshot of me that was just too easy to crop (though entirely unprofessionally), so now Click Here to continue reading.
Poem of the Week: 8/19/07-8/25/07
This week’s poem of the week is All the great men die from Andrew Nichols. An alternate version of this poem can be found here.
The last little piggy stayed home; this one went to market
So last Friday evening, the 10th, I checked my email and saw that I had an email from my friend Abby that contained the line “Also, Millie’s birthday is next Friday. . .on the off chance that you’re able to come, no gifts needed, missy!!!” I read it carefully. Very carefully. It said “needed”, Click Here to continue reading.
