This morning at Acme we had some parts that were run wrong on the machine and needed to be fixed up. This already is a disgrace according to the standards of Lean manufacturing. But it was worse because K. D. wasn’t at the meeting to promise that he could fix them, and nobody else knew Click Here to continue reading.

Shall we starve Mexicans to fuel innovation?
Vinod Khosla (among many other people) wants the government to spend vast amounts of money to help along the production and adoption of ethanol. In other news, the Mexicans are having trouble buying corn to feed themselves because of existing ethanol production.
Cheap shot?
Maybe. But I have serious problems with Khosla and those like him. You Click Here to continue reading.
Poem of the Week: (2/4/07-2/10/07)
The poem of the week has some relevance to the essay of the week as is our custom. But the relevance is lost in the twisted maze of the Chieftain’s head.
Rant of the Week: (2/4/07-2/10/07)
In this rant, Spengler goes after modern art. Actually this rant is long enough to be an essay, but we shall term it a rant because it takes as much skill to attack modern art as it does to make it; which is to say, no skill at all.
Nonetheless, Modern Art needs a good kicking now and again and Spengler supplies one.
Essay of the Week: (2/4/07-2/10/07)
Our essay this week is not an essay properly speaking. Rather it is speech by Abraham Lincoln. It seem only fitting that as Lincoln’s birthday approaches that we should give him some space on our blog to defend himself against those who would argue that the South had every right to seceded. It would do well for people to listen to Lincoln’s own defense of Union as the South prepared to rebel before they make up their mind on the matter.
Why you don't wanna mess around in a TV
This video will give you a faint idea of how much power can be stored in a CRT monitor or a TV. It’s pretty cool watching him power a fluorescent light bulb, and set things on fire.
Chocolate Eclairs

There. I just finished spending an unbelievable amount of time putting together what is basically a photo-essay on how to make chocolate eclairs. Everything has been broken up into small enough steps a child could follow it. Can somebody please make all that time spent worth it by making eclairs this weekend? You won’t regret it. Eclairs are high on the list of top 10 desserts in the world for a reason; they strike the delicate balance of being so rich and flavorful that you want to keep sticking them in your mouth and yet light and un-filling enough that you can keep eating them.
Smart People are Overpaid and It's the Government's Fault
If you are a true nerd, the first thing you are going to ask is “overpaid by what standard”?
So let me rephrase the title of the blog post in nerd speak; People with higher then average I.Q scores are subsidized by government actions and as a result people with above average I.Q are receiving Click Here to continue reading.
Choreography by handicapped people
I found this video of choreography by handicapped Chinese people on the Ministry Of Manipulation blog. It’s kind of eerie and surreal, especially when you think of how much more difficult it must be when you can’t count on everyone to see or hear their cues.
