Bogus News Story Of The Day
The tone deafness of the above sentence was really jarring to me. Technically the above link is for an opinion column so I should not be calling it a bogus news story. But its complete tone deafness exemplifies the reason that people in the New York Times don’t get the political trends that are sweeping the western world. France has double the unemployment of the US and a very high youth unemployment rate (around 25%). But the author says that those things can’t be the main problem because France is such a cool place to live. And it is if your are wealthy or upper middle class who have good jobs. But those are not the people fueling the anger he is trying to understand.

All right wing news for today. Except I guess for the Bloomberg article but even that is just admitting that the sudden concern on the part of liberals for congressional authority has no liberal legal theory to support it.

‘They Taught Us How To Decapitate a Person’
The U.S. Dropped a MOAB in Afghanistan and You’ll Never Believe What Happened Next! The amount of bad news stories about this bomb drop from both right wing and left wing sources is staggering. I never would have guessed that such a routine bomb drop would become such big news. Granted, it is probably not a good thing that the US is dropping ordnance all over the globe without it getting reported on, but the amount of misinformation by ignorant regarding this particular ordnance drop is staggering. Anyway, the link above will at least give you accurate numbers to put the bomb in context with other bombs and explosives the US drops all the time. Maybe some other day when I am not so tired I will link to a good over view of the military reasons that the US military sometimes uses MOABs.

Flights From Syrian Base Fell Sharply After U.S. Strike. I don’t know what I am more tired of, the pro-war crowd acting like this was some great thing or the anti-war crowd buying every thing the Russians say. Most of you probably don’t read much of the anti-war crowd so you most likely don’t know what I am talking about. If I can ever find a somewhat verifiable account of the Russia side of the story I will link to it. But mostly the Russians seem stuck on saying things that are provably not true and thus give the pro-war crowd a chance to write articles like the above.

From world champions to humbling defeat against Under 15s side… World Cup-winning USA women’s team suffer 5-2 loss against Dallas academy boys. The story is not bogus per say. The problem is that it is in the news. I say the same kind of headline with the Australian female team lost to a boys team in their country. The fact that these things are news shows how unrealistic their views on the relative differences between males and females are.

February 2017 MBE bar scores collapse to all-time record low in test history. In case you could not figure it out, the reason this should be in the news is that it shows that law schools are taking money from people and pushing them out completely unable to do the job they went to school for. I don’t think this general problem is only limited to law schools. More detailed commentary here.

Police as Oppressors: the Filipino Case. To a certain extent, I don’t think it is fair to pick on the police. As is pointed out in the comments, the resistance almost exclusively came from the rural areas. Still, if you take it as a broader point about human nature it is dead on.

U.S. Cruise Missiles Struck Syrian Base With Impressive Precision. Not sure I would call it impressive. Posting this mostly because I posted a more cynical take yesterday. It is true that if they performed as bad as the Russians say it should be easy for them to produce the evidence. So I am guessing the Russians are not telling the truth. At million dollars a pop I expect them to hit their targets, I am just not sure the targets were worth hitting even in the narrow military sense.
